- HVDC using 220 Volt DC primary batteries were located in lower levels of two multistory exchange buildings.
- HVDC power supported new generation exchange equipment as existing 48 Volt DC systems were unable to be expanded to meet these additional loads.
- The HVDC systems provided A and B power supplies to new equipment when existing 48 Volt DC plant was single plane.
- The HVDC solution survived the Christchurch earthquake with no downtime.
